How to Set Up Scaffolding? Here’s What Experts Suggest

Scaffolding alongside a skyscraper is impressive to behold. Have you ever wanted to know how to set up scaffolding?

Setting up scaffolding is a precise job – as accurate as surgery if you want to be technical. You’re dealing with people’s lives here; therefore your scaffolding must meet certain occupational health building regulations. Qualified scaffolding professionals should be the ones to setup and dismantle your scaffolding because they have been trained on how to set up scaffolding on roof expertly.

Following are some important considerations to ensure the proper set up of a scaffold :-

A reliable foundation

The foundation upon which you set up scaffolding is of great importance. Base plates or mudsills are ideal in eliminating the chances of wayward movement. Mudsills provide the base with just the right type of surface for a strong and stable footing.

Digging may be an option if the ground is not level. Use mud to fill in the gaps. In addition, you can use adjustment scr to level the structure of the scaffold. You may need leg-extensions if the foundation is on a slope.

Our clients often want to know “how long does it take to set up scaffolding”.

It depends on how good the foundation is. If the ground is not level, it may take considerable time to prepare it first. Setting up a scaffold in itself isn’t as complex as preparing the foundation.
Caster-locks

If you are looking to move scaffolding from one place to another you must first equip it with casters. Once the scaffolding is on the right spot, don’t forget to lock the casters.

Assembly of the frame

· Frame assembly begins with laying out the ends. Lift the first end and fix it with the cross brace above.

· Make sure that the far end of the brace supports the end piece.

· Then lift the next end piece and fix it to the cross brace above.

· The end of each cross brace must be secured to the bottom of the end frame on its opposite frame.

Check for stability

Move the scaffolding in different directions to check if it is secure, moves evenly, and maintains its level. If it shakes, no matter how marginal, check for the weak link and address the problem.

Bring in planks

First, make sure you have the proper hardware to fasten each plank into its place. Now lift a plank, elevate it through the boards, and put it in the right place. Use tie offs and guardrails to ensure 100% safety of the workers.

How high can you build a scaffold without a licence?

If the height is less than four meters, you don’t need a scaffolding licence in Australia. But if the height equals or is above four meters, you must acquire a scaffolding licence.
